The recent phase of work using Emergency Repair Grants to restore parts of the Foundry Buildings nears completion, and we now move towards planning the main restoration which will begin late 2021 or early 2022. The photo shows the side elevation of the joiners’ shop which had a new roof in recent years and has now been re-pointed, has had new cast iron rainwater good installed and its windows restored and re-glazed – and splendid it looks! Readers might be interested to learn that this building was the original foundry building where bells were cast until a new larger foundry building was constructed in 1876 – the one we still use today!
