H.R.H. The Duke of Gloucester is used to unveiling plaques to mark his visits to many places, but history was made today at Taylor’s when the Duke cast his own plaque commemorating his visit! Kitted out in the correct clothing for pouring bell metal at 1100 degrees centigrade, the Duke kept a steady hand as the mould was filled.
The royal visit comes immediately before The Trustees of the Loughborough Bell Foundry Trust launch their public appeal for £1.1 million as match funding for their National Heritage Fund sponsored restoration project to bring about the complete restoration of this unique Grade 2* Listed Bell Foundry. The Duke showed great interest in all aspects as he toured each department, and his relaxed style was greatly appreciated by the entire work force.
