Major maintenance work is to be undertaken on this 10 cwt eight in the care of English Heritage. The wheels from the two treble bells, together with all eight clappers and crown staples will be removed for restoration at Loughborough. A new stay will be manufactured for the treble bell, and a new lockable rope spider will be manufactured and installed. The cast iron and steel bell frame, and all metal fittings will be cleaned down and be primed and re-painted to complete the work.
This project was on hold subject to a bat inspection report. Work is now underway. Th bells have been lifted and their bearings have been cleaned/replaced as necessary. The cleaning and repainting of the bell frame is underway. The clappers, crown staples and other fittings have been returned to Loughborough for restoration.
