The War Memorial Carillon
A major restoration of the tower and bells is taking place in time for the centenary of the end of the First World War. The restoration of the carillon will be carried out sensitively to retain the instrument and its components as far as possible as that installed originally. The clavier will be rebuilt, the clappers re-faced, and the transmission replaced as necessary. The bell frame will be cleaned down and will be re-painted.
Work to dismantle the clavier and transmission has been completed. The transmission parts that are to be retained have been cleaned by sand blasting and are being restored. All the clavier parts have been restored and the clavier has been rebuilt . The smallest bells have been removed, cleaned and returned. The new transmission is being fitted.
