The largest three bells from this 7 cwt ring of six will be removed from the tower and brought back to the Foundry. Their cast-in iron crown staples will be removed to protect the bells from cracking in their crowns, and new canon retaining cast iron headstocks will be manufactured and fitted. New gudgeons and bearings will also be manufactured and the other fittings restored/replaced as necessary. The hanging work will be carried out by members of the Kent County Association Bell Restoration group.

Update

  • Bells have been removed and are at Loughborough.

  • The largest three bells from this 7 cwt ring of six were removed from the tower by the Kent County Bell Restoration group and brought to Loughborough. The tenor bell was found to be cracked and had to be welded in its crown. The bells were conserved by the drilling out of their cast-in iron crown staples, and new cast iron canon retaining headstocks were cast for them and supplied with new gudgeons and bearings. New clappers, crown staples and bell wheels were manufactured and supplied. The bells will be rehung by the Kent County team.
