Heritage England rates the importance of the Foundry so highly that it is Listed as a Grade 2* Building. The listing also extends to many of the ancient machinery that is still in use – often after a century or longer! So when one of our milling machines gave up the ghost a few weeks ago the decision was made to repair it “in-house” – we are engineers after all.
The milling machine is used to grind the bearing plates and feet of new cast iron bell frames to ensure they are perfectly flat before assembly – a vital part of engineering accuracy.
Here Neil and Will re-assemble the machine after the repairs have been completed.
