St John's Parish Church
The two bells at this church are to be rehung for swing chiming. New fittings will be manufactured, including headstocks, gudgeons, bearings, clappers, crown staples, bell wheels, rope roller boxes and bell ropes. This church has the distinction of having held the wedding of Dr Edward Jenner to Miss Catharine Kingscote in 1788 – Jenner is remembered for his introduction of the smallpox vaccine.
This project is now active. The smaller of the two bells has been conserved and its new fittings have been manufactured. The cast iron headstock for the larger bell has been manufactured and gudgeons and bearings have been fitted - the bell is ready for its final polish and dispatch.
