The Minster Church of St Peter.
This Minster Church houses a fine Taylor twelve cast and installed in 1932 with a tenor bell weighing over 2 tons. The present weather proofing of the 22′ high louvres consists of asbestos sheeting at bell frame level and wooden boarding above. Taylor’s has been contracted to open up all the trap doors and lift the necessary tools and scaffolding into the belfry to allow specialist contractors to safely remove the asbestos sheeting. Once this is complete, new weatherproof boarding will be installed consisting of cement board below and exterior quality plywood above.
The necessary materials and tools have been lifted into the belfry and all is ready for the specialist asbestos removal company to being work.
