John Taylor Bellfoundry Projects

Bramley, Hampshire, The Parish Church of St James.

September, 2025 | 2025 Projects

The tower of this church houses a 12 cwt ring of eight which Taylor’s augmented from six in 1951, and rehung in a new cast iron bell frame. At that time the Warner fittings of the back six bells were not replaced. The bells and their fittings are to be removed from the tower for restoration and rehanging. The old timber headstocks dating from 1883 of the six largest bells are to be replaced with newly manufactured cast iron stocks of the canon retaining type for the Ellis I Knight back five . These will be equipped with adjustable crown staples. The remaining fittings will be overhauled and adjusted, and a new rope guide will be manufactured and installed in the ringing chamber. Whilst the bells are away the bell frame will be cleaned and repainted.

* These bells and fittings have been removed to Loughborough.
