Cast iron is a wonderful material to use in the construction of bell frames – it is very strong, takes up less space than conventional hardwood, and rusts extremely slowly even if neglected. At Taylor’s we have made cast iron bell frames for more than 140 years, and when frames are returned as part of restoration projects after 120 years or more, a quick sand blast and the frame castings come up like new.
In anticipation of a major order for a very large cast iron frame expected shortly, a new pattern has been made in our hardwood department to speed things up in the foundry.
