About Us
The Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust
The Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust was established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2016 with the objective of protecting the historic John Taylor bellfoundry buildings, archive and museum collections for future generations.
In recent years, we have refurbished the site and, in autumn 2024, relaunched an interactive museum and visitor attraction. Funded by a major grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other valued donors, our precious Grade II* listed buildings have been saved and and has been removed from the Heritage at Risk register.

Our Team
At John Taylor & Co, our people are at the heart of everything we do. With around 30 dedicated staff, we bring together centuries of expertise in bell founding, restoration, and engineering. From the highly skilled foundry workers and craftsmen who shape, tune, and restore bells, to the designers using cutting-edge CAD technology, every member of our team plays a vital role in preserving and continuing the art of bell making.
Many of our staff have dedicated decades to this work—some for over 40 years—passing down skills that have been honed through generations. Our sales and administration team ensures projects run smoothly and will provide you with a friendly, efficient point of contact. We’re passionate about what we do, and for many of us, that passion extends beyond the foundry—many of our team are bell ringers themselves. That shared love for bells means we understand their significance, not just as objects, but as part of a community’s heritage and soundscape.
Professional, knowledgeable, and always approachable, we take great pride in our work and the relationships we build with those who entrust us with their business. Whether restoring a treasured historic ring or crafting a new installation, we work with dedication, care, and a deep respect for tradition.
Rooted in tradition. Our team through the decades – the same craft, the same passion, still going strong.

The Bellfoundry Today
Today, the John Taylor Bellfoundry site is home to two distinct yet closely connected entities. John Taylor & Co. continues its centuries-old craft, restoring and casting bells for churches, cathedrals, and customers worldwide. Alongside it, the Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust, established in 2016 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), preserves the historic buildings, archives, and museum collections. This partnership has been essential in securing funding to restore the foundry’s Grade II* listed buildings, removing them from the Heritage at Risk register.
While John Taylor & Co. operates as a working foundry, the Trust manages the site’s heritage aspects, ensuring its history is safeguarded for future generations. This includes offering tours around the foundry, running the museum and an extensive archive. The two work hand in hand, allowing visitors to witness both the ongoing craft of bellfounding and the remarkable legacy behind it. This unique combination makes John Taylor & Co. not just the country’s last remaining bellfoundry, but also a living link between tradition and innovation in bellmaking today.
We aim to secure a special place for the bellfoundry in the hearts and minds of future generations.
