The last bell cast at The Whitechapel Bell Foundry before it closed in 2017 was specifically cast as part of a display of that Foundry’s workmanship for The Museum of London The museum is in the process of relocating to the old Smithfield Meat Market, and a new display will be housed there.
The Whitechapel bell will form the centre piece of a new internal entrance tower, and an order has been placed for the casting of three smaller bells to act as quarter chimes. These will be supplied with electro-magnetic hammers and an automated chiming unit. The Whitechapel bell will be supplied with a trigger action clapper to allow visitors to sound it manually on occasions.
