The 41 cwt Taylor ring of twelve in the central steeple of this cathedral was originally installed as a ten in 1879 in a huge oak bell frame. A major restoration and rehanging was carried out by Taylor’s in 1935 when all the bells were tuned, one recast, and all rehung on new fittings. Two treble bells to augment the ring to twelve were cast and installed in 2008.

An order has now been placed for all the bells to be lifted from their pits for their bearings to be cleaned/replaced as necessary, and for all the clappers, crown staples and rope roller boxes to be refurbished.

* The clappers and crown staples have arrived and are being refurbished.

This project has been completed.
