This classic 27 cwt Gillett & Johnston ring of ten was cast in 1925, and hung in the Taylor composite frame of oak & cast iron which was installed in 1867. General maintenance work will be undertaken to keep the ring in good order.
The 7th headstock will be removed to check possible movement in the gudgeons and bearings. The remaining bells will be lifted and their bearings check and cleaned/replaced as necessary - the tenor bell bearings will definitely need replacing. The sliders will be replaced. The Ellacombe chiming hammer on the 4th bell will be restored and replaced in situ. A new timber shafted clapper will be manufactured for the tenor bell.
This project is in hand
The 7th bell headstock has been sand blasted and its head has been milled flat.
New gudgeons have been fitted.
