The steeple of this church houses a lovely Gillett & Johnston 31 cwt ring of ten, with the entire installation dating from 1930. Constant wettiing from rain that accesses the tower via the spire lights is causing deterioration to the bell frame and fittings. Major maintenance work will now be carried out to improve matters.
One of the major base beams cannot be saved and will have to be replaced by removing the 9th & tenor bells. Other maintenance work involves the restoration of the clappers and crown staples, and the fitting of “Galebreaker” and stainless steel mesh to the louvres to prevent in ingress of some of the driving rain.
