John Taylor Bellfoundry Projects

Bridgenorth, Shropshire. The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene.

April, 2026 | 2025 Projects

The tower of this church houses an 8 cwt eight, the back six being by Rudhall and the trebles by Taylor. The augmentation and rehanging of the bells on new fittings in a new cast iron and steel bell frame was carried out by the Loughborough Bell Foundry in 1939, with the parish insisting on the use of plain bearings.

An order has now been received for the bells to be lowered into their pits and the cast iron headstocks to be returned to Loughborough for the fitting of new gudgeons and bearings, and for the rope roller boxes and clappers and crown staples to be refurbished. The bell frame will be cleaned and be repainted while the fittings are at the Foundry. New galvanised steel access ladders will be manufactured and installed between the ringing chamber and bell chamber.
